Original Irish Cream
Irish whiskey mixed with cream and sugar with hints of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and almond. Will keep for 2 months if refrigerated.
This is better than the commercial Irish Cream liqueurs and is very popular with family and friends. Will store for several weeks in fridge, just serve over ice.
I've had homemade irish cream before that was much better than this. This stuff came out too thick and sugary for me - next time I would use more cream or less condensed milk and chocolate syrup. I made it for St Patty's day and most of it is still sitting in my fridge a month later. The two times I tried to drink it I got a stomachache and a headache.
This mix is awesome! I just served it at a holiday gathering. They went through two batches in 1/2 hour! Everyone wanted the recipe, and everyone thought it was far better than ... you know ... Bailey's. Thanks, Mom! I'm buying decanters to fill up and give out as gifts!
Everyone LOVED this, many asked for the recipe or how it was made. My only regret is that I didn't double the recipe! I took some of the advice of other reviewers, used melted chocolate chips in place of the syrup and totally omitted the almond extract. I did not adjust the amount of whiskey and noone seemed to think it was too strong. :) I will be replacing my regular Irish Cream recipe, which calls for eggs, with this one!
Closest we've found to our off the shelf favourite!! Nothing like a hot cup of something you love that you were able to add a little home made touch too. Love the recipes, and information in general that is shared. We have built this recipe many times altering it slightly to our taste. We're partial to Caroline's Irish Cream. We found switching the cream for a almond milk, dropping the almond extract. We also use a ten rather then fourteen ounce can of condensed milk and slightly reducing the chocolate syrup. It's the bomb!! Oh and we like our Canadian J.P.Wisers deluxe as the medium. P.s. The almond milk, and less condensed milk drops the calorie total. It also will not separate like cream would and has a longer shelf life. Cheers:)
Wow...This is so good!! I did use half N half in place of the heavy cream, and cut the almond flavoring to 1/4 tsp, otherwise everything else to the T. Just made a double batch again today. I like this with a little coffee and lots of ice. Thanks for sharing your recipe Mom!!
Use Jameson's or Bushmill Irish Whiskey and cut it down to just over a cup. It's awesome! We make this every year and give it away to our friends for Christmas.
